Starting this week, we’re expanding our rollout of Promoted Discovery: a new way for websites to use Disqus to increase traffic and make money from the engagement of their communities. This is a very new dimension to Disqus, and one that we’re very excited to be talking about. Over the next few days and weeks, you may see a form of the Discovery box that looks like this:
The Discovery box was released earlier this year to help people discover more interesting conversations around your site. Disqus’ new discovery features are meant to drive more high quality traffic for websites. In August, we described real results that real websites have been seeing. From the websites that we studied, we learned that Disqus & the Discovery box were delivering an average of 56% more pageviews and 166% more time spent than other comparable social traffic sources. It’s only been weeks since the Discovery box began rolling out, but we’re already seeing over 12 million discovery clicks per month — and it’s growing fast.
Our new revenue-sharing program, Promoted Discovery, builds upon this natural behavior by sometimes showing promoted content, like blog posts, within the Discovery box. Whether this content is promoted or organic, we’re working hard to ensure that this content is personalized to your audience and high quality.
For the last couple months, we’ve been testing and working off some great feedback from participating websites and users. We’ve put together this Promoted Discovery FAQ that describes how this all works. Starting today, you’ll be able to see how well the Discovery box, as well as Promoted Discovery, is working on your site. Your earned revenue from Promoted Discovery accumulates starting today, October 1, 2012.
Our goal is to make this very valuable for you, your site, and your community. We’re early on the rollout and are keeping close watch on how websites continue to use Disqus’ discovery features. To configure how your site uses the Discovery box, we’ve introduced a new settings page.
The Discovery box is built into the new Disqus 2012. If you’re not yet using the new Disqus, you can easily activate it for your website with just a few clicks.
