    Welcome, David Cramer

The first version of Disqus was written sometime in 2007 using Django, a Python web framework. Jason and I wanted to create the application with a Python backend, so we decided to toy around with Django. Disqus was, in some part, also a way for us to play around with this cool new way of developing web apps.

Many parts of Disqus has been rewritten since then, but it’s still running on the Django framework. Today, Disqus is one of the largest Django applications on the web, serving over 100 million people every month. Django has evolved quite a bit since then and we’re continual fans of both its core philosophies and the great community around it. Through this community, we came across a lot of good contributions from someone named David Cramer. I’m happy to welcome David as the newest member of the Disqus team.

David was previously Director of Technology at iBegin.com and, before that, Lead Developer at Curse.com where he helped them scale their platform on Django. He was personally introduced to us a couple months ago through our own Chris. Today, he’s finally made his way from Nebraska to join us here in San Francisco. David will be working heavily on the core of Disqus and helping to architect some of our biggest releases in the coming future.

So yes, I’m very excited about this. Please join me in welcoming David on his first day. :)

    —Daniel
