Earlier this year, we published research showing that mobile now accounts for over 73% of pageviews across Disqus publisher sites, and that figure has been steadily climbing since 2021. We also made the case that in a world where search referrals are shrinking and zero-click experiences are becoming the norm, community engagement is one of the most durable revenue levers publishers have left.
The logical next question was one we kept hearing from publishers: if mobile is where our audience lives, why is our comment section still a desktop-first experience?
Today, we have an answer. We're excited to announce the beta launch of the Disqus SDK, a native integration that lets publishers bring fully functional Disqus comment threads directly into their iOS, Android, and React Native apps.
What the SDK means for your audience
Comment sections are more than a place to leave feedback. They're where your most loyal readers live. They debate, they share, they come back. For publishers with a dedicated mobile app, bringing that same community experience into the native environment has never been straightforward. Until now.
The Disqus SDK changes that dynamic. With it, your readers get the same seamless commenting experience they expect from your website, now built directly into your mobile app. Same threads, same community, same conversation continuity across every screen.
What's included in the beta
The SDK beta launches today with support for:
- Native comment threads on iOS, Android, and React Native
- Social authentication so readers can log in the same way they do on the web
- Single Sign-On (SSO) support for publishers with existing authentication systems
- Customizable styling to match the look and feel of your app
- Comment counts for React Native
We'll be rolling out additional functionality, including Microsoft authentication, in the coming weeks.
Built for Disqus Business and Preferred publishers
The Disqus SDK is available as a value-add for publishers on Business and Preferred plans. This is an open beta, meaning any Business or Preferred publisher can get started now. Simply reach out to your Disqus representative, and our team will guide you through implementation at every step, from initial setup to going live.
If you're on a Plus or Pro plan and interested in getting access, this is a great opportunity to explore what a Business plan upgrade could unlock for your publication.
What this means for your publication
Mobile is where your audience already lives. The Disqus SDK is how you meet them there, bringing the same community experience your readers expect from the web directly into your app. Community is no longer just a widget at the bottom of the page. It's becoming infrastructure. The SDK is how we start treating it that way.
If you're on a Business or Preferred plan and want to get involved in the beta, reach out to your Disqus representative to get started. To learn more about what Disqus can do for your publication, visit our Business page or contact us to learn more.
