Starting today, all Disqus users now have the option to secure their accounts with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
2FA allows users to add another layer of security to their accounts by introducing a second step to their log-in process. Users who enable 2FA can choose from one of the following authentication methods:
- Configuring the email address associated with your Disqus account to receive a one-time verification code that you then input during your login attempt
- Selecting an authenticator app on which you'll receive either a QR code or a secret key that we'll generate for you
We also give you the option to generate one-time backup codes which you can store for later usage if you ever lose access to your designated email address or authenticator app.
You can enable 2FA by heading to your Account Settings page and choosing an authentication option under Two-Factor Authentication. Once you choose your preferred authentication method you'll be prompted to complete the steps shown to you. More help is available in our Knowledge Base.
Users who log in via social login options like Google or Facebook will NOT need to provide their verification code. (Note to Disqus publishers: For these users, 2FA can still be enabled via your upstream authentication provider.)
As always, our mission is to help you keep your Disqus account as secure as possible. For more resources, check out our Security Best Practices guide.
Thank you!
